George Bailey (James Stewart) is a man at the end of his rope, having made a series of financial decisions that leave him close to ruin. When he begins to contemplate suicide, a stranger appears to show Bailey the error of his thinking. Loosely based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, It’s a Wonderful Life holds up incredibly well thanks to the keen storytelling sensibilities of director Frank Capra and stellar performances from Stewart and co-star Donna Reed.
