First Time Visiting the Onyx?
A few things that are helpful to know

Welcome! We’re glad you found us.
The Onyx is intentionally different from big chain theaters, and because we’re very small, a few details can make your visit smoother and more enjoyable.

We’re very small
Each of our theaters has just 29 seats. Seating is general admission, and we do not offer reserved seating.

Because of this, we strongly recommend arriving at least 20 minutes before showtime, especially for evening shows, weekends, and holiday periods. Arriving later than that increases the chance that seats together may no longer be available.

Seating etiquette
Seats may not be held by leaving personal items behind. If seats are being held for others, someone must remain in the theater at all times. This helps keep things fair and comfortable for everyone.

Checking in (even with advance tickets)
Most guests purchase tickets online in advance. Even so, everyone must check in at the counter when they arrive.

Here’s how it works:

● Your emailed ticket is scanned at the counter
● A paper ticket is printed
● That paper ticket is required to enter the theater

At this time, we do not have an express line for advance tickets. Because of our size, box office and concessions share one small space, and this check-in process is standard for all guests, including our regulars.

Please note that guests may not bypass the counter or enter the theater without a paper ticket in hand.

When to arrive
Theater doors open 30 minutes before each showtime.
We recommend arriving close to that window rather than very early.

Movies start close to showtime
We do not run ads before our films, and there are usually only two to three trailers. Movies begin close to the posted showtime, so arriving late may result in missing the beginning of the film.

21 and over only
Because we have a beer and wine license and no kitchen, we are legally required to be a 21+ venue. This applies to all guests, even if they do not plan to drink.

Parking
Additional parking is available behind the theater, accessible from Searls Avenue, and there is usually abundant street parking nearby.

Refunds
If something comes up and you need to refund advance tickets, you can do so easily using the refund button in your confirmation email prior to showtime.

We’re not able to issue refunds after a show has started or after the fact, so we recommend using the refund option as soon as you know you won’t be able to attend.

A shared space
We ask all guests to treat one another and our staff with care. You can read our full Code of Conduct here, which outlines what we ask of everyone so that The Onyx remains a welcoming space.

If you ever have questions before or during your visit, our staff is happy to help. If it’s your first time with us, welcome in. We’re glad you’re here.
